This day is a day that myself, my family, my friends, my neighbors and my town will not forget. On the contrary to what the media is stating...we are still broken. You see, the media is coming around trying to find feel good stories to tell in the news about all the good that has happened. And yes...GOOD HAS HAPPENED, and many good people are to thank for all of their efforts and their determination to bring Union Beach back. But what bothers me is the fact that things are still not OK for a lot of people in town because the town is...still broken.
My family was lucky enough to have insurance and a quick response insurance company so that my home is now a home again. But don't let the media fool you about everything being "great". You see, just last month another house right around the corner from me came down. When will they have their home again...if they come back. It is very sad but a true fact...we are still broken.
When the weather men on TV say that we are going to have a big storm or high winds...my kids still wonder if it will be another Sandy event. They wonder if the empty lots will ever have homes on them again. If our town and us will ever have to live through that devastation again. You see...the children of our town and their emotions...are still broken.
Now we are getting back on our feet and we are doing a damn good job at it. Homes are going up...people are fixing their houses...and some people are coming home after a long time away. And boy are we glad to see them...home again! We WILL get back everything we have lost...eventually. We will live differently then we did before...STRONGER! If ever this event or any other event for that matter happens to our community again...we WILL be there for one another again! Because you see, the one thing that is NOT still broken...IS US AS A COMMUNITY!!!!!!
